Re: Parting Ways With the Right (Charles Johnson & Conn Carroll)
At 53:06, Johnson says he posted many photographs from the 9/12 protest that he found appalling. Carroll immediately tries to discredit him by pointing out that he wasn't actually at the rally. So, is photographic evidence not enough? Does Carroll think the signs were photoshopped? Do you really have to stare at a racist poster in person to get the full effect? Carroll knows he can't defend the rhetoric so he tries to side-step the issue.
Carroll also employs the useful strawman, so popular among the Right, that anyone who complains about the overt racial tones in some criticism of Obama is saying that [I]anyone[I] who opposes Obama is a racist. This is obviously false. No one is claiming this. But it's a handy way for Carroll to avoid discussing the GOP's cynical mobilization of people whose opposition is indeed based in racism.
