Out of Bounds?
I sat back and watched and listened to this debate this time. Instead, I re-read my blog posts from the period the last time a similar incident, the Seung Hui Cho shootings at Virginia Tech. occurred, when I leapt in with both feet. I'm struck that with VT, the GOP-Democratic/right-left aspect of the debate was muted compared to debate over mental illness and guns. Is it just too simple to argue that the problem here is that one of the victims was a politician? Is the particularly strident conduct of the "debate" merely a result of a compulsion to defend the profession of politics?
