Badhat-
Sorry for any misinterpretations on my part; none were willful. I read too much into your
"I didn't realize there was a decade of emails. I need to look into that" comment, which was probably (unconsciously) colored by having just read your stronger comments about unfamiliarity regarding at least one other matter (ID theory). I appreciate the correction.
So in your remark
"They thought it was fine to hide the decline and not inform anyone that they did so", you were not referring to
actual temperatures? I hope you can see why one would assume that's what you meant, given the original context in which the Climategate tangent arose. Anyway, I'm glad to learn that's not the argument we're having.

Um, It was Phil Jones, Mann's cohort, who coined the phrase, not FOX News. They report, you decide.

You've got
me wrong, this time. I never accused FOX of making up that phrase. If you look at my remarks, you'll see that I accused FOX of deliberately misrepresenting the meaning of various passages from the emails, not of fabricating the soundbites from nothing.
We're way off the initial discussion at this point but I'm interested to follow up on your other remarks when time permits me to have a look at the stuff you recommend. In the meantime, I felt that it would be best to offer the above remarks sooner rather than later.
