A big part of the rationale behind the Muslim campaign I linked to is, as I mentioned, that a majority of Americans report that they don't know any American Muslims. I don't think this would be the same for Jews. Therefore, I am not sure if the same type of campaign would be as beneficial. There is a long history of Jews being accepted in American culture and politics, which is not the same for American Muslims. American Jews are highly overrepresented in American political institutions and in media, both entertainment and news/opinion...the same cannot be said of American Muslims. Hence, all the discussion about Katie Couric's we need a "Muslim Cosby Show" comments. Unfortunately as you point out, this has not resulted in the elimination of hate crimes against American Jews.
I would be happy to support a well conceived effort to fight prejudice and hate crimes against American Jews, but I really think we are dealing with two completely separate sets of issues here.
