I agree with you Wonderment. If one has a pre-established group of experts to judge over some matter, in this case the FDA, and then when an issue within that domain comes up and one overrules them based one's own technical/scientific interpretation of the findings, it's very hard to imagine it isn't because one is letting political considerations lead to a deliberate misconstruing of the science.
If they simply didn't mention the drug trials and admitted Plan B is safe, or at least it's met the standard bar of proof for safety, and then said even admitting that we don't want Plan B available for some subset of children because of political, social, or ethical concerns that would be one thing. I may or may not agree with the decision, but I wouldn't say the administration is being "anti-science".
As it is; The curent administration is indeed being "anti-science".
P.S.
As an aside, it's fascinating seing how much of politics comes down to trusting politicians motivations. If President Bachmann did this everybody would assume its because she twisted science because of stupid religious beliefs. IF Obama does it...
