Default Re: Salvaging Religious Spirituality (Adam Frank & Eliezer Yudkowsky)

It is interesting to suggest that religion should be completely discarded from a philosophy or understanding of the world. However, as Adam points out, religion and spirituality crop up naturally in the context of a historical system of ideas. Just as you make citations for writing a paper, religion has a role to play in any discussion of reality. Insofar as reality boils down to a system of hard, scientific reasoning, religion is indeed worthless. But as Eliezer seems to overlook, reasoning has little relevance in a reality which is often arbitrary and inane, as in a conversation with a village idiot, for example.
