Default Floridian Tea Partiers Take Action to Protect Our Precious Bodily Fluids

Sometimes I think the whole point is to get made fun of:

Quote:
One of Florida's largest counties will stop adding fluoride to the water supply before the end of the year, commissioners decided this week, in a move that some opponents say was influenced more by tea party propaganda than it was by health or financial considerations.

The issue was pushed by tea party activists, charged one commissioner who voted to keep fluoride in Pinellas County's water supply. Fluoride is a chemical credited with dramatically reducing cavities and tooth decay....

"Fluoride is a toxic substance," said tea party activist Tony Caso of Palm Harbor, The St. Petersburg Times reported. "This is all part of an agenda that's being pushed forth by the so-called globalists in our government and the world government to keep the people stupid so they don't realize what's going on."

"This is the U.S. of A., not the Soviet Socialist Republic," Caso told the commission.
And just to make sure nobody missed the reference, here's the relevant video.

This article below seems to suggest that other groups that warrant being made fun of, HHS and the EPA, started the push to at least reduce the levels of fluoride in the water as far back as January. I don't care about this at all, just adding a little context.

Two points, one serious and one not:

1) There's a big difference between tweaking the level of fluoridization and completely eliminating one of the biggest public health accomplishments of the past century.

2) The important part of this story is the Dr. Strangelove reference. Don't take that away from me.

do you know the science behind it? the people who are complaining about government "medicating" them are obviously stupid. but are any of the health risks legitimate at all? I assume it depends heavily on the dosage.

Not really. My understanding is that overdosing can lead to discoloration or mild pitting of the teeth, but I'm not aware of any other adverse effects.

The context for Don's story is that there are many in the tea party rank and file who think that fluoride was added to the water supply to make the population docile and easy to control. They think it's a mind control drug and part of a mind control plot.

Fun story: I mentioned this story to my roommates with the intention of mocking Floridian Tea Partiers, only to have one of my roommates confidently assert that the Nazis fluoridized their water supply in order to make the population more docile and pliant.

That's a good one. Of course it presupposes that the Germans would not otherwise have rallied to Hitler and his policies.

So let me see now....by the same reasoning, but for the floride in Floridian water no good Floridian would rally to Obama and his policies?

My children grew up in an area in NJ where the water supply wasn't fluoridated. So, they all took fluoride supplements from infancy until age 12. More docile and pliant? Hell no! if you ask me.

Three sets of teeth, not a single cavity.

PS: they are somewhat more benign-looking kids though...

It's all beginning to make sense.
