A fine mess we find ourselves in.
A counterpoint story to this is here. It seems that a film was shown before a golf tournament broadcast. It showed children reciting the pledge of allegiance, without the words "under G-d". This seems to have provoked a controversy.
Meanwhile, remote control planes try to help us kill our way out of a war.

And as a progressive voter I find myself in a fine mess, too. If I vote again for Obama, I'm condoning his foreign policy of wanton murder, which is, I believe, little, if any, different (other than the rhetorical flourishes) than would have been McCain's or than was George Bush's. Obama is somewhat better on environmental issues, but not enough to make much difference in the long run. The ecological problems we face are so serious that only very decisive action will make any real difference. Healthcare, while possibly an important achievement, is a long way from an actual workable solution. It's a band-aid when radical surgery is needed. Voting for any of the potential Republican candidates is not on the table for me, nor is not voting at all. The only option I see at this point, since we don't have a third party, is to write in a name. I'm leaning pretty strongly toward Kucinich. Other suggestions would be welcome.

As far as I can tell, you might as well stay home on election day. Writing in the name of someone who has no chance to win, carries very little, or no practical purpose.

I'm hoping that Democrats (voters) can figure out what's at stake at this point in our history. There's no room for ideological posturing, IMHO.

The problem as I see it is that it doesn't seem to matter much who one votes for. The difference between Democrat and Republican policies just don't vary that much once the rhetoric is stripped away.

Hi, sapeye. Chances are you and I will disagree quite a lot about this, but we have a thread over in the Life, the Universe, and Everything section right now about the Dems and strategy questions and how to push the Dems to the left on various issues. You might be interested in weighing in.

I concur. It's good fun. Also, I'm still interested in doing an Apollo Diavlog on the subject.

Thanks stephanie and Don Zeko. I'm off to celebrate Solstice with a motley band of lunatic pagans, but will check it out when I return.

Default Screw the dog whistle; GOP now just using a whistle

As SteveM says, "You don't need to be a dog to hear that whistle."

This is the GOP. If you're a part of this party, you're a part of the problem.
