![]() I liked how de Onis took the ICC seriously but also took justice seriously. In US politics it seems like you have to choose either hostility to international institutions or hostility towards non-utilitarian punishment.

![]() NY Times this sunday has nothing on Americans fighting in Afg. No op eds, no news reports, no analysis. Drudge highlights that we have lost another soldier. ( close to 10 killed this past week )
http://www.newzjunky.com/news/0711drum.htm NSC chair Jim Jones is quoted as telling commanders in the field to expect a WTF response from Obama if they ask for more troops. I guess that will also be the reply for more resources of any kind. I cant know for sure because the media does not report on the matter, but I suspect American lives are being lost in Afg because our forces are spread too thin and are being tasked by Obama to do too much. ![]() Serious stuff, soberly delivered. Ditto to the comments above. Mark is a great interlocuter here, and Paco's delivery is really moving - I'll definitely see his film too.
Though he didn't focus on the ICC in his speech from Ghana, President Obama directly addressed the Darfur genocide, and Congo (as well as Zim and others). http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/12/wo...rexy.html?_r=1 Reading an article about it just doesn't compare to hearing it, so If you have 31 minutes, this is a great way to spend it. The video is embedded about half way down the page and it's a difficult listen because of poor transmission quality but really, really worth it for the content. |

Here is a version on YouTube, which has the same satellite transmission problems, but may be a little smoother, and in any case is a bigger picture.

![]() Thanks BJK for the better video. I looked for versions recorded locally in Accra and posted from there, but no luck.
