Re: We're All So Easy to Hate (Maureen Tkacik & Lizz Winstead)
These two are full of it.
Winstead's A Daily Show apologist when she offers up the old trope that hiring in show business ain't fair. Yes, and life isn't fair, blah blah blah, but that doesn't excuse their pick.
Winstead also flits back and forth between claiming comedy is subjective and if Munn got the job, then she must be funny.
I've only seen Munn once, and I thought she was awful. I didn't immediately jump to the conclusion they hired here because she's attractive. The fact of the matter is that most of the reporters hired do not generate big laughs at first, in part because an ounce of image is worth a pound of performance. Stewart was awkward his first couple of weeks as well, and the same goes for Colbert. Show business ain't easy.
The problem is that since Munn is not immediately funny we jump to the most obvious conclusion and say she was hired for the most salient characteristic -- her beauty.
