I agree that his pro-immigration stance won't hurt Gingrich. McCain after all lead the fight FOR Amnesty and had no problem getting elected. People forget the Republican party is about 1/3 moderate-liberal. And even those Republicans who *say* they are against illegal immigration have to be constantly reminded of the issue otherwise they "forget".

Chamber of Commerce Republicans love illegal immigration since it means cheap labor, union busting, and money in their pockets. OTOH, Limbaugh and others constantly discuss the stupidity of creating another 12 million potential Democrat votes by giving illegals amnesty, hence the resistance. Accordingly, Republicans are always torn between short term profit and long term electoral disaster.

As for Gingrich, he's clever in the Bill Clinton, Nixon, Obama sense. He has 10 ideas a day, and 2 good ones, and lacks the emotional stability and mental discipline necessary to be President. But compared to Obama he's a heavyweight.
