Default Re: Fingerprints of God (Robert Wright & Barbara Hagerty)

There's nothing essentially spiritual about meditation or mindfulness. It's the pinnacle of introspection. The term "heightened consciousness" is doing a lot of work, but I grant that meditation is an effective method for changing your cognitive habits (in particular, it's one of the best methods for treating anxiety disorders, as far as I know...which isn't that far, so I may have outdated knowledge).

I guess, I'm not sure what is so spooky about meditation that it would raise questions about what Hagerty calls "reductionist" (and other people call "accepting, all things considered, the current best model that we currently know about" if best sounds too certain, publish your results) world view? Things can be personally profound without having anything to do with metaphysics (as anyone who has eaten ice cream can tell you).
