Re: Science Saturday: Existential Angst and Twitter (Robert Wright & Carlo Strenger)
It's long been MY thesis that academics should be banned from any commentary on pop culture and What It All Means, and furthermore, should be jailed for making follow up suggestions about how "we" can save ourselves. Because the results are always nutty. I'm a religious, current non-celebrity and I promote myself on the Internet like crazy, not because I live in existential dread or fear of death (since I have no fear of it, like my fellow believers) but because IT MAKES ME A SHITLOAD OF MONEY. Money that allows me to create a cool life for myself and others. Oddly enough, this behavior is considered normal in the business world. (I am told my money won't be good in the Next World, but perhaps there are currency exchanges...) Mr Strenger seems to base his theories on information provided by teenagers, IT billionaires and publicists; maybe he should talk to some normal business people of a religious bent next time. But then there would be no book.
