Regarding form: We "human beings" often use colloquialisms, slang, and improper grammar, especially when trying to ingratiate ourselves in unfamiliar social situations. It communicates that one is game for joking around, even about ostensibly serious subjects. It puts people at ease! Try it!

Alternatively, wag your finger further at Bill for saying that things were going "good."
