Default They hate us for our freedom.

Totally unbelievable. Scratch that; this is Republicans we're talking about. If this is still a surprise in late 2011, you haven't been paying attention.

Quote:
Freedom Now Requires 72-Hour Notice And A Non-Refundable Deposit

Following demonstrations earlier this year which drew up to 100,000 people to the Wisconsin Capitol, Republican Gov. Scott Walker has proposed new policies that would require future protesters to pay in advance to stage an event, at a cost of $50 per hour, per Capitol Police officer.

Police may also require a liability insurance or a bond, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal.

Demonstrators will also be on the hook for any damage and cleanup following protests. Walker’s administration had claimed that the pro-union protests earlier this year had costs as much as $7.5 million, but later admitted that the actual costs were far less.

Under the new policy, permits will be required for groups of four or more people who want to do any activity inside the Capitol. Groups of 100 or more gathering outside the Capitol must also apply for a permit 72 hours in advance. Police will have some leeway if unforeseen events lead to spontaneous gatherings.
TBogg observes:

Quote:
So if you want to take a group of more than four schoolchildren on a tour of the state capitol where they can see democracy in action, and by ‘democracy in action” we mean “destroying the economic well being of workers and the middle class”, well, the kids are going to have to fork over their lunch money and have their papers ready lest Walker’s jack-booted thugs have to start pepper-spraying the little bastards for unlawful assembly after which they will be billed for the used pepper-spray as well as the clean-up of vomit and snot and tears spilled over the failed American experiment in freedom.

Good. Today the Leftists disrupted a tree lighting ceremony for the troops, with school children doing most of the festivities, simply because Walker was there. Complete with Nazi salutes. Classy.

I'm glad the state is taking action to regulate these weirdos.

Real Americans (TM) know that freedom of assembly was snuck into the First Amendment by socialists.

Not according to WBAY: "A couple dozen protesters at the morning ceremony did not interrupt Walker or cause any disruptions."

Or according to the Wisconsin State Journal: "Several dozen protesters did show up at the early morning event, and some booed Walker when he was introduced, but they didn't cause any interruptions or disruptions."

It's quite telling how even this mild expression by citizens meets with not only your disapproval, but your call to have the First Amendment gutted, proving (as if proof was needed) that what motivates the GOP base is hatred of liberals and a desire to punish them. Leftists merely appear at a Walker event? Good -- let's take away their free speech. This is how conservatives arrive at their positions. It's totally binary; just do whatever makes the left suffer.

LOL. As if this makes it especially egregious. But yes, I understand that as an authoritarian, the thought of school children exposed to free speech and free thought must be truly alarming.

Simply because Walker was there?!? You mean you're going to pass up the chance to say that the leftists disrupted the ceremony to show their contempt for our men and women in uniform, the ones who put their lives on the line so that those stinkin' commies can abuse their freedom of speech? I can't believe you let that one go by!

If you want to edit your original post, I'll edit my reply; no one will be the wiser. ;-)

Yes, of course you do. Proving, once again, as if proof was needed, that what motivates the GOP base is hatred of liberals and a desire to punish them.

Exactly. Besides, our Founders never realized how dirty hippies were going to use their rights to express tepid disagreement with the authority of the state. If only the Founders had known the kind of scum that today's elite have to contend with they never would have written such an expansive Bill of Rights!

They didn't smash the place, like OWS goons, that's true. Low bar, though. They engaged in theatrics instead, alternating with Hitler salutes as you helpfully showed us.

Not at all. THIS event isn't what makes your side disgusting, OWS does most of that work. This group was repulsive before OWS was a glimmer in a squatter's eye, though.

Sorry. How dare I critique the harassment of Republican politicians in Wisconsin. Anything other than glowing support for anarchy in the streets is Fascism.

Yep. It goes to how you people politicize everything. Not even children are safe from your ranting and raving and political theater.

And I can't believe that you are leaving out the most obvious. It was a Christmas tree, so there's obviously a lot of hatred of Baby Jesus being expressed.

That's not what I said. That is a non-sequitur. That book is geared towards parents, it seems to me, by the way.
