I've been thinking about my opinion about Rush and have come up with what I don't like about him. He is unsubtle.
It's a shame, since he has such a huge audience, that he confines himself to the good guy/bad guy routine. He's certainly bright, witty and articulate enough to be giving his listeners a better basis for what he believes and what they should believe.
While I am quick to point out that liberals can be very knee-jerk and closed minded, conservatives can be that, too. As an example, portraying the founding fathers as primarily Christian and almost god-like when we all know that while they may have attended church, they also held slaves and were quite content to have children with them.
Maybe we could portray them as mere mortals who were educated and read Locke and were just a few in the long march to the democracy we have today. Personally I don't care that much about what the founding fathers said or intended although I respect their efforts as flawed human beings.
We need to get off of slogans and examine and develop principles.
