Re: Kudos to Bob for setting the record straight on his hero, Ron Paul

I didn't say Iran is more dangerous than Pakistan; It may not be (I'm not an expert). But that horse has left the barn. We can still delay Iran. And delay is a good thing to do.

To tell someone...

Re: Kudos to Bob for setting the record straight on his hero, Ron Paul

I'm not addressing their reasons for wanting weapons. That's not what we should care about. Our concern should be the control and security of such weapons. They are not stable enough for that...

Re: Kudos to Bob for setting the record straight on his hero, Ron Paul

You guys are missing the point. It's not about using nukes. It's about losing nukes. It's more likely that an Iranian nuke will go missing than for an American nuke to go missing. Even with the...

Re: Santorum, Romney, Paul

Right. I'm just saying the voters are very fluid this year. And all the candidates are gaining momentum in terms of name recognition. Even after Iowa and New Hampshire, I think it's early enough...

Re: Santorum, Romney, Paul

Well, there is some logic to leading with small states. It forces the candidates to talk to real voters. And the rest of us can watch on TV. If California were first, it would be a battle of...

Re: Santorum, Romney, Paul

Given the volatility of the electorate this year, I really don't understand how someone can spend months campaigning and then give up based on the results from a few farmers in Iowa.

Re: Santorum, Romney, Paul

I read that Romney won with 25% of the vote. This is such a good illustration of the media's laughable obsession with constructing a horse race story.

Won? Really? What did he win exactly?

Re: Be Seeing You (Robert Wright & Mickey Kaus)

2012 has arrived in the sylvan byways of Massachusetts.

Thank you for another fine year of BHtv.

Re: Kudos to Bob for setting the record straight on his hero, Ron Paul

First of all, let me affirm your position that Ron Paul brings topics to the table that merit legitimate debate. I am perfectly fine with your a la carte disentangling of Paul's peace issue from his...

Re: Great DV John & Glenn!

I guess providing support and forming alliances with any nation risks irritating the neighbors. But that's not sufficient reason to become an isolationist. The fact of life is that conflicts will...

Re: Great DV John & Glenn!

My argument is that no one should, and Israel will not, be pushed around by threats of annihilation when it is clear who the aggressor is. It's sort of like "Buy this magazine or we'll shoot this...

Re: Great DV John & Glenn!

Can you describe this transformation in more detail? I mean, when the time comes that they have the capability, isn't it just a matter of Israelis deciding (as is their habit) that they won't be...

Re: Great DV John & Glenn!

Not joking. I care more for other cities than I do about Tel Aviv.

With regard to loose nukes, I'll just say that some of us have questions about Iran's reliability.

Do you really think the...

Re: Great DV John & Glenn!

I think your answers are pretty good, with the exception of the Israel answer quoted above, which is rather weak. Congratulations on the others.

Your point about proxy actions has some truth, but...

Re: Great DV John & Glenn!

There are no simple answers to these questions. I'm sorry to say that your "answers" are exhibit A in the case that there are no simple answers.

Just to highlight your most egregious error:...

Re: Heather Hurlburt & Daniel Drezner

You make good points, but let me flesh out the argument.

Obama is not the timid peacenik detractors make him out to be. Evidence for this is his expansion of drone attacks along the Afghan...

Re: Heather Hurlburt & Daniel Drezner

Well, Iran is more militarily robust than Iraq was.

Tell me what you think of this scenario: US imposes sanctions. Iran tries to close the gulf. US intervenes to protect shipping. Iran sinks...

Right you are, BadHat. OhReally has overstated the problem. The best diavlogs have an element of disagreement that causes the participants to illuminate the topic from different angles.

Re: Lessons Learned: Beyond Good and Evil (Robert Wright & Alan Wolfe)

I think you just boiled the whole discussion down to "Calling people names doesn't prove anything". I can't argue with that. But have we wandered away from Wolfe's thesis?

I accept this.

Re: Lessons Learned: Beyond Good and Evil (Robert Wright & Alan Wolfe)

OK, Stephanie, here's how I would try to smoke out this Wolfe guy. I would ask him if he would be troubled by an appeal, by Roosevelt to the American people, to engage in war against an "evil"...

Re: Lessons Learned: Beyond Good and Evil (Robert Wright & Alan Wolfe)

I don't completely recognize the connection between evilness and the justification of force. I would use force when it's beneficial to use force, without direct constraint by religious...
