Re: Values Added: Special Shame Edition

I'm not saying that he is saying that it is a reason not to vote for Newt, I'm saying that he is saying that the story is true and widely known. Unless you mean that he isn't saying that story is...

Re: Values Added: Special Shame Edition

I posted a link to what he said, and it lasted all of seven seconds. Perhaps you could take seven seconds to listen to what he said so that you could see that what she wrote is a clear refutation.

Re: Values Added: Special Shame Edition

Really? "My mother, Jackie Battley Gingrich, is very much alive" is not a refutation of what Glen said (and Chris Matthes and many, many others say)...

Re: Values Added: Special Shame Edition

It is always good to see the attitude "I don't like X, therefore I will continue to believe every horrible thing about X that I hear, regardless of the evidence" out in the open. Please continue,...

Re: Values Added: Special Shame Edition

Since Glen mentioned the story, it is worth pointing out that Newt Gingrich's daughter says that the whole Gingrich divorced his wife on her deathbed story is wrong...

Re: Lessons Learned: Domestic Radicalization (Arun Kundnani & David Schanzer)

So then isn't unfair of you to ask apple if bin Laden, who you brought up, not apple, is the spokesman?

Re: Lessons Learned: Domestic Radicalization (Arun Kundnani & David Schanzer)

So who do you reckon is the official spokesman for all Muslims? (Or, for that matter, all Christians? All Jews? etc.) I assume that you believe that there is one, otherwise you wouldn't have asked...

Re: The Most Glorious Time of the TV Year (June Thomas & Willa Paskin)

I understand (and agree with) your point, but it doesn't even make sense as a substitute for male chauvinist, though, in this case, since if anything his humor is misandrist. I don't think that it...

Re: The Most Glorious Time of the TV Year (June Thomas & Willa Paskin)

How, exactly, is Tim Allen's brand of humor misogynistic? Isn't the basic point of Home Improvement that it is Tim who learns how to be a better man every week, and that his wife was nearly perfect...

Re: All-Texas Edition (Erica Grieder & Evan Smith)

So are you arguing that abortion should be back under state control?

Re: All-Texas Edition (Erica Grieder & Evan Smith)

No, it isn't hypocritical. The 10th Amendment/States Rights position is that the Constitution reserves some powers to the federal government and everything else to the states. If the Constitution...

Re: All-Texas Edition (Erica Grieder & Evan Smith)

I'm not sure that Mr. Smith understands what those who support the 10th Amendment really think if he believes that it is a contradiction to support using it to limit federal overreach and at the same...

Re: The Tears of a Cartoonist (Robert Wright & Tom Toles)

If you believe that I am happy that instead of punishing those people (by making them suffer the natural consequences of their mistakes, if nothing else), we rewarded them by bailing them out, let me...

Re: The Tears of a Cartoonist (Robert Wright & Tom Toles)

I think that we basically agree too. I didn't mean to imply that liberals don't care about civil liberties; I know that they do, even if not in exactly the same way that I do as a libertarian. It...

Re: The Tears of a Cartoonist (Robert Wright & Tom Toles)

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I am not denying that this is a huge story or that only liberals are concerned about it. I was trying to point out that since I have different point of view, I was more...

Re: The Tears of a Cartoonist (Robert Wright & Tom Toles)

I'm all in favor of letting off steam. That is completely healthy. I'm in favor of condemning, shaming, shunning people for their bad (but legal) acts.

I think the thing that really shocked me...

Re: The Tears of a Cartoonist (Robert Wright & Tom Toles)

The question is, though, does thinking those thoughts make you happy or ashamed? If it makes you happy, then you are falling victim to exactly this kind of thinking.

Much as I sympathize with Tom's emotions there, you make a good and valuable point.

The scary thing to me is that it is so easy to understand the emotion. I'm willing to bet...

Re: The Tears of a Cartoonist (Robert Wright & Tom Toles)

This exchange really jumped out at me:

http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/27111?in=13:30&out=13:48

So no laws were broken, but we still need to find a way to put these people in jail?

I'm...

Re: If I could be granted one small wish ...

You are right, that was too glib and unfair. I apologize.

My point was only that it is unfair to criticize Roberts and the others, in this case, for being hypocrites. Yes, they went against...

Re: If I could be granted one small wish ...

So then your belief is that the original intent of "Congress shall make no law..." was really more like "Congress can make laws abridging free speech, if it serves a good purpose."

Which is not to say that they, like all of us, can be hypocrites frequently.

Re: If I could be granted one small wish ...

My point was that you were attacking this decision because the judges weren't following "original intent", when pretty clearly they were.
