Re: Worldwise: The Geopolitics of Hope (Robert Wright & Nitin Pai)

Completely agreed. But there's a difference between justified outrage against US policies and participation in/support of Al Qaeda, a group with a very specific ideology that mandates the destruction...

Re: Worldwise: The Geopolitics of Hope (Robert Wright & Nitin Pai)

Interesting talk.

I think this is one of those rare cases where Bob's ideology clouds his interpretation of what is actually happening. In a recent 'vlog (http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/38743),...

Re: Calvinball Edition (Adam Serwer & David Weigel)

Fun one, although Weigel's typing rankled me a bit.

While I generally agree with Adam's take on race-bending, it's a stretch to claim that fealty to comic book ethnicity is actively hurting...

Re: Military-Industrial Edition (James Ledbetter & David Callahan)

Excellent discussion... fascinating content, plus these two had a smoother rapport here than when they discussed David's book a few months back (not that that discussion was bad). High marks, and...

Re: The $14.5 Trillion Dollar Question (Adam Serwer & Dan Drezner)

Have not read "World War Z", though I plan on checking it out at some point -- as I say, I'm not a hardcore zombie guy. And I'd be all for a piece of fiction that walks through how slow zombies...

Re: The $14.5 Trillion Dollar Question (Adam Serwer & Dan Drezner)

Good diavlog, particularly the political sections. But I felt like these guys really overrated "The Walking Dead". The show has two big flaws, one of which I can understand zombiephiles ignoring, one...

Re: Main Damies (Ross Douthat & Reihan Salam)

Big fan of these two, and very much enjoyed this diavlog. Having said that, the core presupposition that underlies a huge chunk of this discussion is false. Tea party supporters have been polled......

Re: The Week in Blog: String Theory Edition (Bill Scher & Peter Suderman)

Thanks to both participants for one of the best TWiBs in a long time. Peter excelled in this format, and I'd love to see him hold up the rightward end of the conversation again soon.

Re: Slightly Frazzled Edition (Emily Bazelon & Ann Althouse)

A good, to-the-point little diavlog. I find Ann is at her most interesting when she's discussing legal issues, as the substance dampens her contrarian anything-for-a-chuckle tendencies.

On the Tea...

Re: Confronting Climate Collapse (David W. Orr & Jim Manzi)

Excellent discussion.

To me, the key quote from Manzi comes in the cliff parable: the fear that we will *irrevocably* commit to a solution that might not turn out to be the right one. His worry...

Re: Removing the Doughnut (Christopher Hayes & Brink Lindsey)

I don't regard the practical necessity of getting 60 votes as opposed to 50 as falling into the "checks and balances" category. Besides, if it's checks and balances that we like, why don't we...

Re: Removing the Doughnut (Christopher Hayes & Brink Lindsey)

I'm not sure that there's anything inherently contradictory about that. The filibuster *itself* can be seen as a perverse incentive... any rule that makes
a bill more difficult to pass gives each...

Re: Valley of the Dudes (Will Wilkinson & Kay Hymowitz)

Great discussion -- thanks to both.

A question for the 'Heads (or whoever else, I guess): would there be anything problematic about a marriage equilibrium with a much bigger average age gap than...

Re: Angry Crazy People (Mark Kleiman & Brink Lindsey)

I like Brink, but he really didn't have his fastball here. He clings to the Manzi-approved notion that climate change comes down to one decisive moment 100 years from now, with no regard for what...

Re: What Obama Did On His Summer Trip (Heather Hurlburt & Dan Drezner)

Co-sign on that. Frankly, both Hurlburt and Drezner are cream-of-the-crop: relentlessly well-versed on the topics they cover, the right mix of opinionated and open-minded, and flat-out skilled at...
