Breif disclaimer: I haven't read anything Reza has written, so I'm speaking only for the what he said at the tail end of the diavlog. Apologies if I gut his views.

Although I'm -far- from being a...

Re: Science Saturday: Ironic Science

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but Kripke's arguments about linguistic skepticism would apply regardless of whether or not platonism is true. The issue is that language itself would be incapable of...

Counterexample to the decade hypothesis...

One possible counterexample to Jim's argument about theories being tested within a decade: Although uncertainty had found broad acceptance by the time Bell figured out how to test it, I don't think...

Re: Science Saturday: Ironic Science

Lovely diavlog, though I was puzzled by Jim's refering to Saul Kripke in the past tense, since according to wikipedia he's still kicking...

Re: Spontaneity Is Not Optimal

I feel that was really more an issue of format than poor performance on either side... Diavlogs can be great for conversations and debates (see Wright and Kaus), and also do well for straight...

Re: An Extremely Pro-Life Life

I'm curious if you have an example in mind here.

Re: An Extremely Pro-Life Life

Although I probably disagree with Arndt's positions on most of these issues pretty strongly, I don't think labeling his views irrational and immoral off the bat is really fair... Nor does labeling...

Re: Reply to 1swellfoop:

My asking about your faith wasn't intended as a rhetorical trap. I'm not trying to corner you argument-wise here... In fact, I really need to stop procrastinating so this will likely be my last post...

Re: Reply to 1swellfoop:

First off, the real question here is whether those extreme elements are right. Your earlier posts would seem to have suggested that you thought they were, particularly when you said that

"There is...

Re: Reply to 1swellfoop:

Do you think that interpertations more amenable to modernity are possible?

Re: Reply to TwinSwords:

That is not an answer to the question. What would you do if what you say is true, and Islam itself is irrevocably violent?

Re: No Pajamas Allowed

I disagree so strongly that I don't even know how to reply beyond chanting "interpertation matters" over and over again and pointing at the Reformation, the Enlightenment, the First and Second Great...
