Re: @Disqus

Disqus is pretty bad as a forum. I doubt I'll stick around after it's adoption if the current forums are completely dropped.

Re: The Bromance (John McWhorter & Glenn Loury)

I misunderstood your comment then, I interpreted it as offering proof that voter ID laws could not be racist because even Mexico has voter ID laws and with it's largely non white population it...

Re: The Bromance (John McWhorter & Glenn Loury)

Re: Iowa!

...okay, I'm better now! Anyways, I haven't been very politically aware since well before the rise and fall of Cain, but.. Santorum? When did he surge? Last I checked he was was of those low single...

Re: Kudos to Bob for setting the record straight on his hero, Ron Paul

My vague recollection of the NPT is that it is an agreement that in return for continuing technical assistance in regards to such things as a civilian nuclear power sector the target state receiving...

Re: The Week in Blog: Mattenfreude (Bill Scher & Matt K. Lewis)

I doubt Huntsman wants people to keep mentioning his stance regarding AGW. I doubt he ever conceived it would define him to the extent it has. It was after-all, basically just one tweet, right?

A bit of an aside about China

Regardless of their public stance on making binding commitments with respect to reducing carbon emissions, or the perhaps more meaningful carbon emissions over GDP ratio, China will do more then...

Is reducing carbon emissions a lost cause?

It is indeed questionable if a tax on carbon emissions to economic sectors that are readily outsourced to nations where no such tax exists will reduce aggregate carbon emissions, at least without...

Re: Cylons and Voltron and Zombies! Oh My! (Adam Serwer & Katherine Mangu-Ward)

Perhaps that post was meant to be posted in the last Science Saturday thread. Seems more relevant there. Regarding his suggestion; I prefer written debates because of their non real time nature....

Re: Skeptics are irrelevent

Disdain Bill Robinson! Disdain!

Regarding "settled science"; I'm not entirely sure what that term even means in this context, but that the equilibrium climate sensitivity hasn't significantly...

Re: Skeptics are irrelevent

That was not my intent. What I meant is when talking about science it's possible to credibly say "I am right and you are wrong". The same is not true when talking about things such as the...

Re: Values Added: The Vision Thing (Michael B. Dougherty & Daniel Strauss)

Mr. Dougherty writes for The American Conservative? Yucky. From his demeanor here I am very surprised.

Edit: My apologies to Mr. Dougherty and The American Conservative (Which I am not familiar...

Dumbing down the explanation

Maggie wants scientists to dumb down the explanations. Perhaps she forgets that not that long ago an incident where a scientist did dumb down the explanation to a group of laymen resulted in...

Skeptics are irrelevent

Both our guests miss the point. It doesn't matter what people believe with respect to the science of anthropic global warming in regards to public policy. Skeptics are irrelevant. It's just a culture...

Re: Whitewashing The Civil War

It was only a fifty year gap because the Confederacy lost. Looking back at their Constitution it's difficult to make a case slavery, as an institution, was in any danger in the foreseeable future...

Re: Let me engage in the passive aggressive attack Too! ... Only more personal!

I agree with you Wonderment. If one has a pre-established group of experts to judge over some matter, in this case the FDA, and then when an issue within that domain comes up and one overrules them...

Re: Daniel likes hard work, too bad his party finds it passe.

I was an electrical helper on and off. In the aggregate, maybe two years. Electrician for about another two years. Maybe three years of work at various service sector work, all part time.

Re: Science Saturday Please

I'm a sad panda ... The podcasts themselves were very hit or miss in my totally unjustified non-humble opinion, but they usually generated the most interesting comment threads.

Re: Values Destroyed: The Fringe Edition

Eh? Most of what I've seen is to few hours, not to many. The whole "I'm going to work you 36 hours instead of 40 so I can pay you crap AND not get you any benefits" happening is the usual complaint....

Cognitive Scientists vs. Grandmothers; Round I

I wonder if the cognitive sciences will ever find anything out that my grandmother didn't already know (She made me always hold but not consume for 60 seconds anytime I received any sort of sweet)....
