Comment on Plan B

I take the progressive side of nearly all political questions, but as a woman my common sense makes me disagree with Chris regarding Plan B.

While it is probably true that the threshold age for...

Yes! Thank you....

I am a lapsed Presbyterian with no special interest in un-lapsing. If I did, I'd want Pastor Sweringen for my minister. I will remember the quote from Acts: Don't call unclean what I call clean.

Re: Commenter Klatch (Robert Wright & Aryeh Cohen-Wade)

Please don't mess too much with the format--technical or editorial. I like it the way it is. (I listen more than watch. I usually knit or take a walk while I'm listening.)

I mention...

Re: Understated Edition (Ben Smith & Byron York)

This comment is for the BH.tv folks. Could we please hear an exchange about candidates that is not just about the horse race? We've heard this type of talk again, and again, and again, and again.......

Re: Science Saturday: Of All the Souls I Have Encountered (Robin Hanson & Brian Christian)

I don't know the phrase "getting out of book." I take it that it is a chess-related expression. Would someone explain what it means? Thanks

What about using drones?

The problem of looking into the reactor containment vessels seems like a good opportunity for using drones or some hovering robots with cameras. The people must have considered that.....Right?

Re: Black History Edition (John McWhorter & Glenn Loury)

I'm a 63-year-old unemployed white lady originally from the Midwest and now of the Northeast. I grew up in an upper middle class liberal Republican home in a university town. I revered Martin Luther...

foreign arms suppliers and socially responsible investing

We shouldn't ignore movements to de-invest in foreign arms manufacturers and suppliers. An example in point is Investors Against Genocide, which focuses on investment giants like Fidelity and others...

Re: Great DV with two of the best Bloggingheads

I agree. A very good pair. Well-balanced. Both viewpoints come across more intelligibly to me.

Cross of skis

I was with you right up to Rev. Thistlewaite's rejection of the ski cross. What's wrong with that? Were more than three people gathered there together in God's name? If so, would Christ have walked...

Re: Values Added: Religion and Civic Virtue (Susan Thistlethwaite & Peter Laarman)

Sign me up, Susan and Peter. We'll never get a discussion of national policy going as long as we're ruled by "it all started when you hit me back."

Re: Science Saturday: Calculus Edition (Jennifer Ouellette & George Johnson)

Jennifer's book sounds very good. I'm glad to have had this chance to hear her speak more in depth on a Bloggingheads subject than I've heard before. At first it bothered me how much George---one of...

Re: getting into the weeds

The Glass-Steagall Act happened under FDR, not Clinton. It was repealed under Clinton. And if Obama "dislikes it" as Matt says. I believe that he dislikes the repeal of G-S, rather than G-S, which...

I'll miss you, Matt!

I've appreciated your ability to hear points of view that you probably don't share. By that I mean you have the ability to reflect and respond rather than to react. Please continue your great work; I...

Re: Science Saturday: Like Animals

This was a very useful diavlog. It helps me understand factors that contribute to my feeling that society at large is mad. It also reminds me of a lecture I heard by Robert Putnam, who wrote Bowling...

Re: Extreme Close-Up Edition (David Corn & Jim Pinkerton)

The only point I'll give to Pinkerton is that modern-day bills are more word-bloated than they were in simpler times. As a result they are susceptible to suspicion and dark paranoia. Bill drafters...

I get Mickey's point and I agree with it 150%. It's like the classic marketing statement: when someone buys a drill, they (sic) don't want a drill they want HOLES!!. The revised healthcare system...

Re: Economic Throwdown Edition

Is it true that Ms. McArdle may join the NYT as a columnist? I can't follow her actual arguments -- she's ranting in econbabble. Dean, in contrast, is coherent whether or not he's right.
