Re: Science Saturday: Reasonable Skepticism

Regarding the climate skeptics, I have no idea how these people get so much airtime, or credibility. It's unusual for interest groups with so little credibility to gain so much traction. I can only...

Re: The Week in Blog: Political Theater (Jamelle Bouie & Conn Carroll)

Much as I appreciated Jamelle's effort to critique the Koch brothers, I think he was too cautious in his condemnation. He was correct to avoid this silly "evil" label Conn was trying to put in his...

Re: In celebration of paper

Lets just dismiss the porn issue first off: it was just an example to illustrate the idea of real versus virtual. No importance, I don't like porn either, however it's delivered.

Very beautiful...

Re: In celebration of paper

And what is "length, width and thickness" if not physical and sensual? Sawing timber is fundamental. Making gestures on an ipad screen is conceptual. I'm not being deep or clever or sophisticated...

Re: In celebration of paper

On reflection, I disagree. Cotton sheets, cellos, vibrant cities, wooden furniture, etc. all involve technology devoted to sensuality. That's the difference, digital ereaders say that form is...

Re: In celebration of paper

Yes good point. If I was there at the time I probably would have objected to the first round stone wheel, saying the square one we had be using was perfectly adequate, and actually quite nice. :)

Re: In celebration of paper

Thank you for your nice response.
I also did lots of my reading from library books I didn't own. It enriched my youth. I live in an apartment now and physically can't have many books around, most...

In celebration of paper

So rare to find myself nodding with virtually everything someone says. Lev speaks for me when talking about how books should exist physically, even if not being read. How his library is a map of his...

Re: Realms of Hazy Phenomenology (Reihan Salam & Lev Grossman)

I wondered the same but realised after the first 15 minutes or so it was a prop especially prepared for the Amazon discussion.
Damn, I've been so delighted at the ease and price at which I can buy...

Re: Global Warming Religion

On what basis do you say that "so far he doesn't have science on his side"? The science is clearly and overwhelmingly on the side that we have a man made problem that we need to react to in order to...

Re: The Final Word on Saddam Hussein...

Yes, I enjoyed that too. Sometimes you just have to say it.

ESP

I like these rambling conversations.
I'd like to take exception to this discussion about what people experience vs what scientists tell us is true. Two American scientific journalists can tell us...

Re: Devalued and Degraded (Heather Hurlburt & Daniel Drezner)

I'm flabbergasted there has been this reaction to Brown's overheard comment. He just grumbled a bit once in the back seat of in his own car, to his own aide, and was not even especially dismissive of...

Re: Snarky Bob's Mean Streak

Yes I realise Congress underestimating its powers is the weak part of my argument.
However, all the technical and economic solutions to address climate change are perfectly feasible and not...

Re: Snarky Bob's Mean Streak

[QUOTE=Bokonon;160320]Username calls out Bob's
snarkiness (http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/27673?in=12:14&out=12:40), but Bob deliberately misses the point and cleverly deflects the criticism onto...

Re: The Candidate (Robert Wright & Mickey Kaus)

What does Bob have against Tiger? Why should he "atone"? He runs a sponsorship campaign about how brilliant and perfect he is, and then we discover he's human after all, is anyone really surprised? I...

Why do I like this site so much?

Sorry to post here off topic, but the last one was basketball which didn't work either, and I couldn't wait any longer to say my piece.
Been watching for six months and finding this hugely...
