I'm asking you, what's your take?

I have an anecdote that relates:
I'm 10 years old or so, it's a Saturday and the sun is shining brightly. On my way out the door to join my friends in playtime, my dad stops me and demands that before I go out, I must read the cover story in Time magazine on the conflict in Northern Ireland and recite to him a summation. Suffice to say that my frustration clouded my ability to meet the demand. No playtime for me that day. I'm unlikely scarred, but I still think it was a dickish move by my pops. Take that Amy Chua!

I would have been openly hostile growing up under such a strict environment. I would have gotten less flack just because I was an obedient child for the most part, but I know first hand when visiting households from some cousins how strict other parents can be.

Thing is it probably does produce more consistent and better results as far as achievement goes, the style is similar to the process for making sausage, the children are ground up into a fine powder.

Not enjoyable process I'd imagine, which is why it was so interesting hearing that guys response to Amy. He lived under those rules, and was rebelling and clarifying quite a bit. At the same time, he does not come across as some random riff raff, those rules are part of what made him who he is, which might be sharper than he otherwise would have been.


Anyway, it's not a dull set of clips at all, I think it would be pretty hard to not find it interesting.

Well thanks for that reply. The links are very interesting.
By the way, I think I get your point, but sausage is actually made from chunky bits of meat and fat. Powdery is not really possible for the mix. Mmm sausage. Yuck finely ground kids. Except to say that kids are very resilient and despite the attempts to crush their spirit -- all in the name of achievement -- they persevere and differentiate anyway.
