No Wire Hangers! (Tim Noah & Matt Welch)

Re: No Wire Hangers! (Tim Noah & Matt Welch)

Huh. I thought Matt Welch was going to want to get his bite at the "I'm not bothered by rightwing threats of violence, but I am outraged by people who are bothered by rightwing threats of violence," but a quick glance at the topics list suggests the subject didn't come up at all!

Thank God.

Meanwhile, how come no one's talking about the IED discovered at an MLK parade in Spokane? We've had fits of media-driven hysteria that lasted for days over false alarms. Now we have the real thing and the media is silent.

Is Matt Welch coming to us live from the Overlook Hotel?

democrats needs more of their people in the police departments of the country. That way you can be satisfied incidents like this are being investigated seriously.

I dont know when this was taped, but Welch is wrong. There is a declared candidate in the GOP 2012 primary ... and he is 20 times better on health care than Matt was in this diavlog:

Yeah, I thought Matt's attitude about healthcare was a bit odd during this diavlog. I understand he has a personal connection to it, but then so does everyone. I just thought it was bizarre considering Matt was a well earned reputation as being somewhat of a hard liner with regards to keeping his magazine on message, and yet he seems to deviate pretty wildly on this DV. Obviously, libertarian orthodoxy shouldn't keep him from sharing his actual opinions, but maybe extending that leniency to others at his magazine would be nice.

Why does a pre-existing condition imprison someone in his/her job. When I quit working for Company A and take a new job at Company B, nobody asks me about my health condition, nobody screens me for any pre-existing conditions. My new employer (Company B) just puts me on its plan, no questions asked.

What if you don't have a handy new job with benefits waiting in the wings? If you do have such a backup job, what about the interim before the new plan is activated? Cobra is prohibitively priced. If you're chronically ill, you are very likely dependent on expensive medications and tests, and specialist care. You likely have relationships with the professionals who help manage your care and who know your history - new plans when they do finally become active can require you to either go "out of network" or change your doctors. I've been there, and it's a nightmare.

Timothy mentioned that a recovery though fragile is underway. There is no empirical evidence that this has occurred in California, the most populous state in the country. When there is a shred of evidence to support a claim of economic growth in the Golden State I'll post it.

Matt's wife is French and he is able to access the French health care system. I haven't listened yet, so this might not be relevant to what you are refering to.

"...and it's all kind of hilarious as long as no-one is getting too hurt..." --M. Welch, out of context and with no relevance to the libertarian mindset.

If a conservative is a liberal who's just been mugged, then a liberal is a libertarian who's been to the hospital in France.

Company B doesn't care about any existing medical condition. You might care however if you get surprised by the arrival of bills noting that the insurer running company B's health care plan rejected your claims because they relate to a pre-existing condition.

Stevens County man charged with attempted MLK Day bombing in Spokane

A man has been charged with the attempted bombing along the route of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in downtown Spokane.

A magistrate clerk at the U.S. District Court in Spokane said that Kevin William Harpham is scheduled to make an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in Spokane. Harpham was arrested Wednesday near Addy, Stevens County.

Harpham, 36, has been charged with one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of knowingly possessing an improvised explosive device, according to a complaint that was unsealed Wednesday.

An FBI source in Washington, D.C., said one man was arrested Wednesday outside a home near Addy. Agents, including a bomb expert from Quantico, Va., were preparing to search a house where others associated with the suspect may be living, the source said.

The suspect is believed to be affiliated with white supremacists, the source said.

[...]

The backpack, left on a metal bench along the route of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in downtown Spokane, contained a bomb that, had it gone off, would have sprayed the crowd with lead pellets coated with rat poison. Investigators believe the bomb was placed in such a way as to maximize casualties.

allisonkilkenny Now that the suspect (white supremacist) has been arrested, I'm sure King will launch an investigation into shady behavior of white people.
That's Rep. Peter King (R-NY), in case it's not clear.
