Props to Dan for articulating my position on the failure of monogamy. Am I the only commenter to hold this view?

as far as I know, I'm the only one interested in that. You're just special. It's a pattern.

You're just special. It's a pattern.

Thanks. Your pattern is to habitually read the worst possible motives in people who don't belong to your in-group. I suppose we're both special.

Considering how easy it is to make assumptions about people's personal lives in an argument about monogamy, I think Graz is being remarkably reserved.

Maybe you could enlighten me as to what he was so remarkably reserved about. By all means be as specific and explicit as possible. Or will you leave this conversation thread unanswered like the others?

Well that was certainly hostile. I don't know what he could have said; Graz is a much more creative shit-talker than I am. But yes, I apologize profusely for not talking to you any more. It was very inconsiderate of me, and yet I doubt that I will reform on this point going forward.

Ah, well. As long as we're agreed that you lost the argument on the actual merits.

speaking of old arguments unresolved...

Measuring oil by gold, the price per gallon is something like 25 cents.

1) if we measure both gold and oil by dollars, why when gold and oil are measured against each other would this difference manifest?

i.e. 1 oz of gold = 1800 dollars and one gallon of gas equals 4 dollars, so shouldn't a gallon of gas be worth 1/450 of an ounce of gold?

2) if you are measuring oil by gold, how can you end up with units of "cents"?

It's $1,900 now.

is that an admission that the rest of your post made zero sense? if you have some way to explain what you were thinking...

anything to add? Your posts above don't give me much confidence in your thinking about economics.

You are too kind to call it a discussion ... but really ... pathetic isn't it?
I imagine it was construed that my highlighting the never ending self regard and thread bogarting of the alleged law school graduate (wastrel) was a good start point for the tepid escalation that ensued.

Did you see that he reintroduced the idea again in the original thread that he alone among forum participants holds the idea that Dan championed. Really?Let's give him a prize or something.

I am shocked, shocked that this innocuous comment would be sent to the dungeon.

Of course the exact same comment would have been equally banished had it been posted by one of Our Treasured Conservative Commenters.

Of course.

What is it with wingnuts and their premature eagerness to proclaim themselves victorious?

lawyers ON AVERAGE make 85K per year. these people would get a tax cut. save me the crap about steep student loan payments because i'm in law school now.

I'm in law school. I win and lose arguments all the time. I argue for positions I don't believe in. I enjoy arguing for the sake of arguing because I believe it will help me fine tune my craft.

Immensely more entertaining than Obama's speech, but not as good as the Republican debate yesterday where Rick Perry compared himself to Galileo!

Well, Galileo DID have pretty good hair.

He also fathered a passel of kids out of wedlock, so perhaps this was an attempt to ease his way into some kind of rolling disclosure.

I think you've misunderstood my intent. I am a moral subjectivist. Therefore, some values that I consider to be valid will conflict. Abortion is a clear case example of that. I have an opinion on it, but I can make arguments for both sides. Representing one side isn't dishonesty. Justice Brennan personally despised abortion and he's one of the greatest liberal Justices in our history.

Brecht thought Galileo was a coward. But then again I hate Brecht.

But I love cherries. From the sweet and tart Amarena (http://www.amazon.com/Amarena-Toschi-Italian-Cherries-Syrup/dp/B001N29O5G) to the Bing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bing_cherry) . You on the other hand attempted to avoid the glaring spotlight shone on your legal expertise. I hear Somalia (libertarian dream) is ripe for legal minds, if not delicious cherries.

That "context" has nothing -- not a thing -- to do with what graz was talking about.

You know what that means? That means it's not context. Nice attempt at a smoke screen.

Please stop. You might inspire him to tell us more about what makes him tick, again, and then again as if we haven't read it enough times already. Then badhat will chime in about how interesting it all is. While repeating it back and asking the same again. Is that really what you want? He obviously has enough free time from lawyering to drive us all to drinking heavily. Would that be an actionable offense? Let's get an opinion from someone who plays a student and lover of the law on the Internet. Anyone?
