U.S.A. 1 - Panama 2

Pathetic. Oh, well congrats to Panama.

Here's your musical tribute. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIqR0gdfwxw)

Question of the day: Can the U.S.A. muster the skill and energy to beat mighty Guadeloupe, or will they bow out? Coach Bradley, your job is on the line.

U.S.A. 2 - Jamaica 0

Better, guys. Next up, Panama again. The U.S. will likely face Mexico in the finals, assuming they advance. El Tri is looking strong and the Yanks shaky, so I'm not taking bets.

I might change my mind if Wonderment wants to grant me a two-goal spread...

And with that, the U.S. moves into the finals to face Mexico. Here's YOUR (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzf0rvQa4Mc) musical tribute. I was going to save this for the finals, but just in case they don't win...

Incidentally, "Fanfare for the Common Man" is my favorite piece by an American classical composer. When I win the presidential nomination for my political Party Of One, I'll have this played after my rousing acceptance speech.

Mexico and the U.S. will be playing in the Rose Bowl on Saturday. In other words, it will be a home game for Mexico! The match will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel, I believe, if you're interested.

Incidentally, Mexico beat Honduras in the other semifinal match 2-0 in overtime.

My prediction for the final -- and it pains me to say this: Mexico 2 - U.S.A. 1. Hope I'm bad at calling games....

Mexico 2 - U.S.A. 2 at the half

The score, in all honesty, should be about 4-0 Mexico. The U.S. defenders need to go back to school. Interesting game...if you like watching car crashes.

Ugh. I can't bear to watch any more. Coach Bradley, you may well be done.

Congratulations to Mexico. You were by far the better team today.

One final musical tribute (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiWGz5SBO1s). Pretty song, as national anthems go.

I can't say I follow the team very closely, but I think back in the day he was the anchor of the U.S. defense -- such as it was. But he's too old now. For the U.S. to jump out to a 2-0 lead after 23 minutes or whatever and then give up four straight...

The U.S. has a lot of work to do, that's for sure.

Freddy Adu looked pretty good up front, though. Comeback, er, young adult?

It's really just too bad. This was a team that would constantly surprise people by playing a bit better than people expected, but never actually win anything. The rationale was always "they're growing, they're improving still!" At some point, you have to actually win something, and you definitely can't take steps backwards. We were in the last confederation cup which was a great experience, getting to play Spain and Brazil. We won't be in the confederation cup this time. Again, disappointing.
