Dennis Kucinich's resolution (http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-congress-afghan-20110318,0,3079156.story)to end the US War on Afghanistan failed today, but gained more votes in the House than previous similar resolutions.

The vote was 321 - 93 with the freshman class of Republican tea partiers failing miserably (zero votes.)

The nine Repubs who joined 84 Dems. in rejecting war were:

Ron Paul of Texas
Timothy V. Johnson of Illinois
John Campbell of Irvine, CA
Dana Rohrabacher of Huntington Beach, CA
Jason Chaffetz of Utah
Howard Coble of North Carolina
John J. Duncan Jr. of Tennessee
Walter B. Jones of North Carolina.

99 Dems. voted with the President to continue the war.

Ron Paul made a clever NPR joke at the Republican base's expense and Dennis drove home the truth of the matter:

Paul chided the chamber's conservatives, who he said overwhelmingly favored much smaller cuts in public broadcasting but "won't consider for a minute cutting a real, significant amount of money."

Kucinich contended that after 10 years, the war had become a waste of effort as well as money.

"For how long are we going to continue to dedicate hundreds of billions of dollars and thousands of lives before we realize we can't win?" he asked.
