Seems like an understandable, even somewhat pedestrian, play by HP. Mobile computing is the hot new place for gadget makers, Palm has a lot of expertise but has lost some of its sheen, HP doesn't have much of a rep for hand-held devices, but does have a strong rep overall, etc.

So why does this provoke the reaction in you that it did? Are you thinking that this is significant because of what Palm used to be? Are you just excited by the prospect of the expected synergy? What?

Because now HP can put webOS on a tablet device. Palm was not going to go there, but with HP they can and will.
