As much as I hate wasteful use of government time and $ I do enjoy these ridiculous stories (http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2010/04/the_mark_of_the_beast_will_be.php). Gotta run, somebody's beeping me...it tingles!!

And Rachel Maddow is on the case (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/vp/36678592#36678592) with her State Legislature Re-Enactment Theatre.

That was hilarious! Thanks for posting it.

So, yeah. There will always be a few nuts on the fringe. The problem isn't a few nuts. The problem is the fact that these kind of crazy ideas are gaining considerable traction in the conservative movement. Bills based entirely on wingnut delusion have now become law in 3 states. And the teabaggers are just warming up.

One note: PZ positions this as a kind of crazy particular to Christian conservatives. It's true that many religious conservatives embrace these lunatic fears. But by no means is it limited to Christians. Here's a video I came across yesterday by two people -- one a Buddhist and one an atheist -- that warns that "Obama's health care bill" requires chips be implanted in all of us.

National Medical Device Registry ~ HR4872 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMXqFxghgHw)

This video was posted April 18.

Some of the comments are hilarious:

"Implants will happen, someday will be mandatory at birth. It will be done to protect the mass. This will happen some day and there is nothing U or I can do about it. They are building for profit prisons for every one that resist."

To which another responds:

"Guess we'll all have to start giving birth illegally."

And you know what? They will. Just like the deranged Attorney General of Virginia has contemplated keeping his newest child out of the Social Security system, because the evil government is using it to track people (http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/video-virginia-ag-ken-cuccinelli-worried-about-government-tracking-his-son-%E2%80%93-told-crowd-he-m).

Crazy is the new normal for the conservative movement.

If that's so why don't you provide a rebuttal, instead of just engaging in name-calling?

Amen. I have a co-worker who is really into Siek-Hindu and meditation and just yesterday he started to talk my ear off about chemtrails and brain-chips and all kinds of other conspiracy stuff. The wierd thing is he's actually very smart. He just buys into EVERY conspiracy theory he hears.

To rebutt bullshit is to wallow in it. Add to that the fact that Twinswords called me out the other day only to be proven to be a liar and a fraud...funny you were not there to ask him where he went. Go figure.

LOL. At last you are speaking from your expertise.

LOL. You proved me to be a liar and a fraud? Gosh, sounds very dramatic; I must have missed it. Maybe you could point out to me when this epic pwning took place.

Just so you know, I rarely read anything you write, and on those rare occasions when I do, I haven't the least bit of interest in responding. You're a psychopath. And while your life clearly lacks meaning and purpose, the rest of us have much better ways to spend our time than interacting with you. I honestly can't imagine how boring and off-track my life would have to be before I found interaction with you to be a worthwhile pursuit.

"Just so you know, I rarely read anything you write, and on those rare occasions ..."

That might explain your continued, overreaching, ignorance.
