Not sure who at Fox was responsible for that, but I agree that does not help... but then we have you, yours (Keefe), and your media underestimating crowds of these gatherings all the time. Not much difference...but I do prefer the high road.

Also, something not lost on Jim Treacher, you and yours also misrepresent these gatherings by cherry picking participants. (http://jimtreacher.com/archives/002132.html) Crowd numbers is one thing misrepresenting who they represent, totally another.

Glad to have extracted you once again from the woodwork though friend.

Just because you keep repeating the lies that Malkkkin and Hateway feed you doesn't mean you're right. The crowd sizes for the tea-bagger tantrums aren't anything close to the half-million you've been claiming. You haven't shown any evidence. And no, that blurry little video is not evidence. You're holding up a blank piece of paper and saying, "See? The proof is written here!!!1!"

Also, something not lost on Jim Treacher, you and yours also misrepresent these gatherings by cherry picking participants. (http://jimtreacher.com/archives/002132.html)

I'm shocked, shocked to hear that the media from time to time pick out the most camera-worthy people in crowds. Why, it's almost like they're a business, and have to compete for customers! And have figured out that the sensational sells!

What's next? Showing footage of the hairiest, most-pierced DFHs at an anti-war or WTO protest? Or (*clutches pearls*) CODE PINK???

(I know you will not be able to resist quoting a fragment of the above line in your response. I'm guessing just the part in italics.)

By the way, there are probably tens of thousands ("MILLIONS") of pictures of different wackos taken at various tea-bagger events, posted online. They're really not as rare as you would like to pretend -- the conservative base is riddled with disturbos. Shall I start posting them, one after another, until you whimper about being "stalked?"

Anyway, so, wow. Oddballs get face time on the teevee. Hard to believe it took you and Treacher this long to figure it out, though, especially given how much time you both spend telling the world how you've got it all figured out.

Glad to have extracted you once again from the woodwork though friend.

I'm shocked, shocked to hear that the media from time to time pick out the most camera-worthy people in crowds. Why, it's almost like they're a business, and have to compete for customers! And have figured out that the sensational sells!

And just to drive home the point that there is no shortage of cherries to pick (http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/11/06/i/):

When John Boehner, the Republican leader of the House, appeared at the Tea Party rally at the Capitol on Thursday afternoon, it was a dramatic signal: The wing-nuts have taken over the GOP.

Think I'm being harsh? The angry folks at the protest -- which attracted several thousand conservatives -- held up signs with messages of hate: "Get the Red Out of the White House," "Waterboard Congress," "Ken-ya Trust Obama?" One called the president a "Traitor to the U.S. Constitution." Another sign showed pictures of dead bodies at the Dachau concentration camp and compared health care reform to the Holocaust (http://thinkprogress.org/2009/11/05/holocaust-sign/). A different placard depicted Obama as Sambo. Yes, Sambo. Another read, "Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds" -- a reference to the anti-Semitic conspiracy theory holding that one evil Jewish family has manipulated events around the globe for decades.

All of this extremism was on display -- proudly -- at an event that was officially sponsored by the House Republicans. After Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) invited tea partiers to the Capitol to rail against the emerging health care bill, the GOP leadership -- somewhat blindsided by Bachmann -- jumped on board, providing speakers and logistical support for the event. Certainly, the crowd was not made up entirely of bigots; I'm not smearing all the protesters who oppose Obama's health care reform effort. But it cannot be denied: Racism and anti-Semitism were part of an official Republican action.

Extremism was also flowing from the podium, where Republican House members were eager for microphone time. Boehner, for one, declared that the health care bill is the "greatest threat to freedom that I have seen." That's some statement. A greater threat than Hitler's Nazism or Soviet communism? About the same time he was speaking, Obama was making a surprise appearance at the White House daily press briefing to tout the fact that the American Medical Association and AARP, the powerful seniors lobby, have each endorsed the health care reform bill. Here's a question for Boehner: Are these two groups opposed to freedom? And at one point during the rally -- call it a Bachmannalia -- when John Ratzenberger, a.k.a Cliff Clavin from "Cheers," claimed that the Democrats were turning the United States into a land of European socialism, the audience shouted (http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/11/tea-partys-takeover-gop), "Nazis, Nazis." No Republican legislator left the stage in protest. Boehner and his fellow GOP leaders should be asked how they feel about mounting a rally that attracted intense hate-mongering.

The problem with threads like this is that there is no context.

For instance, take the Van Jones thing, it's hard for those of us that don't follow politics all that closely to get any perspective on how important that incident is. How important a post was it? What regulatory power does that post have? Does someone holding that post wield enough power to significantly alter the FCC's agenda?

Without being able to answer that question, or many news sources giving out the prerequisite knowledge needed for me to answer those questions (Neither FOX nor MSNBC make the cut), it's difficult to ascertain if I should care.

There is a neutral observer. Did he write it from the front lawn of the white house?

Whether he is neutral or not is not so important. He was reporting facts. All of those examples existed, and he had links to further back up some of his claims. The only reason I quoted that segment was to further show that your implication -- that the crazies at these teabagger rallies are exceedingly rare -- is not correct.

And while I'll certainly agree David Corn has an openly liberal perspective, if you're trying to say his a mouthpiece for the Obama Administration, you're really serving up some weak sauce. He's not like Hannity or O'Reilly or Limbaugh or the Powerline bloggers were regarding the Bush White House. Not even close.

The perspective of someone who doesn't follow politics all that closely is particularly useful in a situation like the Van Jones one. The fact that you thought he was part of the FCC goes to show how important his actual job and what he was actually doing was to those on Fox who were out for blood. He was part of the Council on Environmental Quality (http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/ceq). Other members of the CEQ are Nancy Sutley, Gary Guzy, and Jason Bordoff. No, I've never heard of any of them before either. They advise the government on how legislation and stuff like that will affect the environment, they coordinate money for research, etc. It's part of the executive office, but so is the Office of AIDS Policy and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. They're advisors. The suggestions about Van Jones being a dangerous radical were ridiculous (the truther petition, however, I take seriously, but since I also take seriously the idea that the truthers were playing with the truth (http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0909/Trutherismlite_and_a_second_Jones_tie.html), I'd settle for him just coming out and making a statement denouncing them) but it's not as if he's vice-president or even president of the CEQ. It's just a way for Glenn Beck to get outraged.

From the NYT:

"In France, the tone has been harsher. Olivier Debouzy, a lawyer and former French Foreign Ministry official, wrote last week that foreign governments were “opaque” for Mr. Obama because he projected his own notion of American rationality on them. Mr. Debouzy asserted that the president also showed a sense of his and America’s superiority to foreign leaders.

“He expresses this by holding himself at a distance from them, which is unusual for an American political figure,” Mr. Debouzy wrote. “It makes personal relations with him complicated, a fact attested to by more than one European chief of state or government.”

The current issue of Le Canard Enchaîné, the controversy-loving French political weekly, which specializes in putting direct quotes into the mouths of French politicians — regarded with interest here although not as verbatim scripture — has President Nicolas Sarkozy saying:

“The truth is that Bush was more interested in Europe than Obama. Obama is very disappointing in terms of foreign policy. It’s not only with me that relations are difficult. It’s the same with Merkel and Brown. The words have changed. The hand was extended. But no one has grasped it.”

Mr. Sarkozy’s irritation might relate to not being officially received in Washington, as Ms. Merkel and Gordon Brown have been. But the French also see Mr. Obama as stalling on Iran."

The story appearing in today's Hill newspaper is fundamentally inaccurate.

Burson-Marsteller was awarded a competitive bid contract in 2009 to support the FCC's efforts to educate and advertise the congressionally mandated switch to digital television.

Burson-Marsteller, and the approved set of vendors including its sister company Penn, Schoen and Berland LLC, successfully completed the work with the FCC on time and under budget. The contract allowed for $6 million, but only $4.36 million of that total was spent to complete the initiative.
