As I always like to say when the microphone fails at the peace rally, "Technology will not save us."

Today's news:

Severe additional sanctions could cause the Iranians to change their policies, [US Sec of Defense] Gates said on ABC's "This Week."

Gates played down, as he has in the past, the value of military strikes, saying at most they could only retard Iran's nuclear program by an estimated one to three years.

"The reality is, there is no military option that does anything other than buy time," he said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" program.

If trend lines continue with the current pace, with so much of the population being so hostile to the government, I think time is a VERY valuable thing to have on tap.
