0They just never got as much attention.

Now you may want to debate the merits of whether truthers actually are nuttier than birthers, but that is not the main point. Just as there a large swaths of the right who come up with deranged logical structures to explain certain things in the world (Obama), so too are there crazy leftists who invent and believe in fanciful views of how evil a Bush led government was (Truther gumps).

In truth I happen to think each group is equally nutty, but I anticipate the obvious weasel counterpoint that the Numbers on the birther side in conservative ranks DWARF the truther nutters !!!

Possible, but I doubt it. More likely there is a segment of the population of every ideology prone to conspiracy theories and general stupidity.

So continue piling on in that section about the birthers, we get it, they are idiots, just don't confuse that reality with one that suggest that on the left side of things, your sh*t doesn't stink.

Sorry to break it to you, it does, for all the dampening done to the truthers as a side show, and the highlighting done to the birthers exaggerating their influence. A nutter is a nutter.

How's that for setting the bar low? Tell me, how do flat-earthers compare?

Shorter JonIrenicus (http://bloggingheads.tv/forum/showthread.php?p=124781#post124781):

It doesn't matter that there are a lot more Birthers than there ever were Truthers; that's not the point! It doesn't matter that I can't find any good documentation about Truthers! All things are equivalent! And I have more straw men here, would you like some?

(Please, please, please don't raise the question about leading Republicans and conservatives sustaining the Birther movement where no prominent Democratic/liberal counterparts exist! I have absolutely no answer for that!)

Now stop saying Republicans are crazy! Socialist Marxist Nazi Appeaser Surrender Chavez Ally Kenyan FEMA ACORN Hitler Youth Death Panels are for realz!!!1!

It's just like how there are some people on the left who oppose AA so therefore both sides equally oppose it, or how some people on the right want to raise taxes therefore both sides are equally pro-tax. There are white people in Africa so don't pretend it's any blacker than America. Facile equivalences are right some times therefore they're just as good as thinking a position through.

I don't know if you have been following the thread, but let's start with a clarification:

The Birther thread is no longer strictly about Birthers. Birtherism was never an isolated phenomenon, but part of a package of wingnut lunacy that characterizes a vast number of the people in your party. Birtherism is but one symptom of the larger problem:

Republicans consider it an unacceptable form of tyranny to lose elections, refuse to acknowledge the right of Democrats to govern, and will increasingly use violence and other extra-constitutional methods to "take their country back" as long as they are out of power. They view Democrats not as political opponents, but as the enemy, against whom it is their right to deal with by any means necessary. Today's conservative movement is the Weather Underground, SDS, SLA, and Black Panthers of the 1960's left.

Call them the tea baggers.

I thought about starting a separate thread about the problem more broadly defined, and may yet, but for the time being, the Birther thread is about the disturbing and dangerous direction of the conservative movement.

It's critical that we document this, and raise awareness. Thank you for helping with threads like this one. Because there is no way any reasonable person can find any similarity between Truthers and what is happening today in your party. You know this yourself, as painful as it is for you to admit. I understand your compulsion to deny the truth about your party and your political movement. I suggest you drop the act and face facts. You'll feel better. You don't strike me as the murderous type of Republican, so you have no stake in the party as it is currently constituting itself.

It's like gay Republicans, or black Republicans. There's no reason why a gay person or a black person could not have conservative values (low taxes, whatever). But as long as the Republicans are the party of race hate and gay bashing, it makes no sense for gays or blacks to join the party. Likewise, unless you are a tea bagging extremist yourself, I can't imagine why you support people who want to tear the country apart to secure what they believe is their inherent and exclusive right to govern the country.

Have you read Lincoln's Cooper Union speech?

They got an enormous amount of attention. And continue to.

Granted, the Truthers weren't advocating the overthrow of the government, the murder of our political leaders, police, and military personnel, and they weren't nearly as numerous. And granted, the truthers were not endorsed by the Democratic Party, or represented favorably in the media, and they didn't have national political figures advancing their cause. Maybe the fact that birthers are a leading constituency of the Republican Party has something to do with the attention they are getting. Maybe the fact that the extremists are engaged in a Republican Party sponsored/supported effort to shut down civic discourse and undermine our democratic process also has something to do with it.

One of the great moments in television. But you don't actually have a single shred of evidence that those disruptive audience members were leftists, do you?

No, you don't.

So why are you dragging it out here and using it as evidence? You thought we would accept your premise that Truther = Leftist, therefore any Truther you point to proves your case?

Sorry. Your premise is faulty.

The leading Truther in the nation is the ultraconservative lunatic Alex Jones. The leading political figure associated with Truthers is Ron Paul, a Republican congressman and presidential candidate. Virtually every Truther I've ever encountered is a conservative and most of them are also Birthers.

the Numbers on the birther side in conservative ranks DWARF the truther nutters !!!
58% of Republicans are birthers. In the South, something like 80% of white Republicans are birthers. And remember: Birtherism is just one trait among an assortment of extremist attitudes, all of which revolve around the conservative belief that they are subject to tyranny when Democrats win elections.

Possible, but I doubt it. More likely there is a segment of the population of every ideology prone to conspiracy theories and general stupidity.
Yeah, but so what? Every dog can get rabies. What matters to me is if the dog living in my home has rabies.

Your party has rabies. We're all in danger as a result.

So continue piling on in that section about the birthers, we get it, they are idiots, just don't confuse that reality with one that suggest that on the left side of things, your sh*t doesn't stink.
Thanks for the reminder. If we ever get a tenth as bad as your side, please let us know.

How hilarious that a thread about birthers, nutters, truthers and Republican lunatics features an Ann Coulter ad from Human Events.
