Congrats to Rosa on the new gig. Hopefully she will still drop by here from time to time.

Congrats to Rosa on the new gig. Hopefully she will still drop by here from time to time.

Thanks for passing that along. Maybe she'll get one more diavlog in before she starts the new job, but I'd be amazed if she were allowed afterward.

BTW, for anyone who cares, there's an email address at the bottom of the column if you want to drop her a line.

My first reaction to this news is to likewise applaud. From her diavlogs here my impression of Rosa Brooks is that she is smart, informed, articulate, intellectually honest, able to see other viewpoints, and a rather nicer person than at least some of the public faces of the previous administration. From the limited exposure to here thinking that BHTV and reading a few of her columns offers, this is certainly a gain for all of us in the US.

Her farewell column brings a degree of melancholy though, as I think she is absolutely on point. That is, it is good that she will be a positive influence on government, but the probability she puts forth that we are seeing the end of at least one type of medium that has been relevant to the idea that an informed public is essential to the maintenance of a free democracy is as trenchant as she has seemed in my exposure to her thinking.
